On the ragged edge of a dream.

I was reading some other diaries on-line. It occurs to me that things are pretty okay with people. They are living out their lives the best they can. Trying to not be beat down, looking forward to the future. Living their lives. And pretty hopefully too. Some of the funniest stuff I've read in years comes from their pages. On-line diarists are observing their world, writing about it and inviting the world to listen in on their existence. It's actually an affirmation of the human spirit. They are saying "We are here, we matter, we're not going to hide ourselves in the faceless mass. If you don't like it, too bad". They are the chroniclers of the age. I wonder what it is that drives them to it. I stand back in wonder and awe at their ability to write and present even the most mundane things in a fresh light. How very human. Wonderful stuff.

THE REAL GLOBAL VILLAGE If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of 100 people, with the relative size of human groups remaining the same, there would be:

57 Asians,
21 Europeans,
14 people from the Americas (North and South),
and eight Africans.

Seventy would be non-white,
30 white.
Seventy would be non-Christian,
30 Christian.

Fifty per cent of the world's wealth would be in the hands of six people.
All six would be citizens of the United States.
Seventy people would be unable to read.
Fifty would suffer from malnutrition.
Eighty would live in sub-standard housing.
Only one would have a college education.
