What's New

Bought the IBM Aptiva I was lusting after. It wasn't the original one I saw but it's close. 200Mhz, 4.0GB, 32MB. A clone 17" monitor. It screeches. It is the S Model with the split design. CPU on floor and floppy and CD player in a pop-top unit on the desk. It came with a 33.3 modem but I can't dial out from the apt's cause they are still screwed up. So, I need to get a serial cable for the Ricochet modem. Hopefully by Wed or Thursday I'll be connected. It also came with a wireless mouse and joystick controller made for IBM by Logitech. Very trick. Got the monitor up to the mega pixel range and I thought I'd have to have a magnifying glass to read the screen. I'd like to run it like that but I already have eye problems and don't need anymore.

I hope to get NetObjects Fusion this week. As soon as I get cabled, I'm going to download the demo version. Also need to get the demo version of VisualPage for Windoze. See if I like it as much as for the Mac. I've seen them both before on Win 95 cause I downloaded them at work, but didn't have a chance to play much with them. I also didn't pay attention because I didn't have a platform capable of running them. That has now changed. I have a reason to live now. Sad and pathetic as it is!!! :-)

Made Zoot a den out of the monitor box. He runs out as I walk by and ambushes me. I act surprised and he's happy. He loves his catnip mouse. He sleeps with it and knows that when I say "Go find your mouse!", he is to go and get it. At least I think he does. Seems to work about 25-30% of the time. Now that he has a house, it's going to get confusing. He won't know whether to go hide or get his mouse.

Cleaned up the work area a lot today. Put a bunch of stuff in a more organized manner, threw out a bunch of paper stuff and made the living room more presentable...which is where I work.

I asked for and got a change of job. I am no longer a lead. Now I'll just do schedules and float wherever I'm needed. This is good. I was going nuts trying to live up to what I thought my customers wanted. I knew I wasn't supporting them well and couldn't do anything about it. The brain she was baking. At least with a Windows chine, I can get Project98 for home use and work from home if I have to. This is good. Other than the fact that Project98 is a piece of shit program and I have to use it, everything is okay.

Be Inc. is working on the Intel version of their OS. I hope to be able to switch to it 6-12 months after it's first release. Since the existing software will be easily ported cross-platform, I won't have to wait for useable apps. I think more apps will appear after the Intel release given the large market. Jean Louis Gasee thinks so too.

What's On My Mind

Converting all my work to DOS. This sucks. I need to rename all my lengthy files to the 8.3 standard. I have a few utilities that will help, but there will still be a lot of hand work to do. SiteMill will allow for renaming the files and keeping links established within docs. There is a Mac program call HTML Grinder which will do renaming but won't change links in documents that point to higher or lower files. Only peer directory files. Either way, it's going to take a while.

Had a pretty good weekend. Nothing too weird went on. My brain seems to be getting better. I went thru a very bad time the last eight weeks and am glad to be coming out of the other side. What a drag. Makes a spinal tap look like a fun thing. I'm thinking of going to bed. I seem to remember someone telling me once that when you are tired, you should go to bed. Hmmmm....

me sumfin. A muffin or a puffin but not a pumpkin.
